Economic and Cultural Factors
Access to food and water, shelter, medicine and education: The factors that influence these points are:
- Natural Disasters is both economic and cultural contributor to the access of food and water. An example would be a rural community that relies on a river to access water and irrigate its crops would have, due to drought, travel to another source for access to water.
- Internal and external conflicts or war can destabalise governments, with ongoing affects to acces to food, water, shelter, medicine and education.
- TNC's can affect rural communities from access to food and water, shelter, medicine and education. This is because the large TNC's are underpaying many of their workers that live in small and rural communities. This is the case in China where most products are made using cheap labour. An example is Apple where all the manufacturing the products and packaging occur. People that have seen these manufacturing factories has said that some of the workers are paid as little as £1.12 an hour, working strenuous hours wiping iPhone screens and carving apple logos into iPad's. This offers workers with little pay and long hours for a meaningless job that will most likely take them nowhere in life. Also the money they earn is not enough to pay for food, water, shelter or rent or even medicine and definitely not education.
